Arts Administration Internship — 2026/2027 (applications reviewed on a rolling basis)
‘T’ Space | Steven Myron Holl Foundation
Rhinebeck, NY | On-Site or Virtual
The Steven Myron Holl Foundation (SMHF) seeks an Arts Administration Intern to support its exhibitions, public programs, Architectural Archive and Research Library, education initiatives, development, and related projects.
This is an unpaid internship; however, housing accommodations on the SMHF campus are provided for on-site interns for the full duration of the internship. College credit is available through a student’s academic institution.
The internship is 25–30 hours per week, with flexible scheduling. The internship duration is 3 months, with dates flexible in 3-month periods in fall, winter, and spring. Due to the rural location of the campus, on-site interns must have access to a car.
A virtual internship is also possible, with responsibilities adjusted to work within a remote format.
Located on a 30-acre nature reserve in Rhinebeck, New York, SMHF is dedicated to the intersection of art, architecture, ecology, and education. The campus includes ‘T’ Space Gallery, the Archive Gallery, an architectural archive and research library, and an experimental case study house on a 30 acre reserve. Through exhibitions, architecture residencies, lectures, poetry, music, and educational programming, the Foundation creates a place for experimentation, exchange, and interdisciplinary dialogue.
Interns will work closely with the Director/Curator and Foundation team and gain hands-on experience in the daily operations of a small nonprofit arts organization.
Responsibilities may include arts administration, exhibition and event support, communications, development research, archive projects, educational programs, visitor engagement, art handling, and exhibition installation.
Responsibilities may include:
- Assisting with exhibition programs, events, and public engagement
- Supporting the organization and presentation of archive and library materials
- Assisting with communications, social media, fundraising research, and mailing lists
- Supporting educational programs, tours, and campus initiatives
- Assisting with art handling, exhibition installation, and special projects as needed
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Strong interest in contemporary art, architecture, museums, nonprofit arts, or cultural programming
- Excellent organization, attention to detail, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently, solve problems, and take responsibility for projects
- Strong writing and research skills
- Comfort engaging with visitors and presenting information accurately
- Enthusiasm, curiosity, flexibility, and willingness to contribute as part of a small collaborative team
We welcome undergraduate and graduate students through cooperative education programs, credited internships, or independent study.
