Students will learn about ACES, including career related services, an overview of Handshake, and tips

for exploring and preparing for their future careers.

An overview of how to create a competitive resume and cover letter that will engage employers,

including strategies on highlighting students’ academic experience, internships, clubs, work experience, and more through these two documents.

Students will explore strategies for creating their future resume, including different types of resumes,

based on industry, how to tailor one’s resume to different opportunities, understanding Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), and ways to navigate these systems in the application screening process. Students will create goals for developing their resume based on the material that is shared.

An interactive overview of career resources and services available through the Academic and Career

Engagement and Success (ACES) Center.

Students will learn about the variety of resources and services available to support their academic and career exploration process. This presentation includes an overview of Handshake, information on events, internships, specialized services, and more!

An overview of resources and strategies students can utilize as they progress from choosing a major to

internships to their first job post-graduation.

Students will engage in activities and learn about resources to explore majors, minors, and the

connection between their academic studies and career opportunities in a variety of industries.

The first of a two-part session where students explore the importance of career planning and the value

of taking Focus 2. Instructions on taking Focus 2 and preparing to review students’ results will be discussed. This session can also be done as one visit to review Focus 2 results.

The second workshop of a two-part series where students review and discuss their Focus 2 results.

This session can also be done in one visit if students have taken Focus 2 prior to the session. After reviewing results, students will create specific goals they can work toward in their career planning process.

An overview on engaging employers in conversation while highlighting students’ valuable degree,

experiences, and skills.

Tips and strategies for a successful interview process will be explored, including interview preparation,

using the STAR approach, handling difficult questions, exploring questions to ask employers, and thank you note strategies.

Students will explore a variety of strategies to utilize in the job/internship search process, including

Handshake, networking, specialized job boards, professional associations, career expos, and more!

During the LinkedIn workshop, students will explore strategies for creating a strong professional online

presence through their LinkedIn profile. This workshop will also discuss expanding one’s network through LinkedIn, using LinkedIn during the career exploration and internship/job search process, and how to utilize LinkedIn when preparing for interviews.

An overview of steps students can take to develop experience and strategically position themselves as

they prepare for their future job search. Students will also learn key steps to take when building their career after graduation.

Tips on utilizing LinkedIn, Handshake, and in-person social networks to achieve career success.

Students will receive an in-depth overview of Handshake, including how to create their profiles, search

for internships, jobs, and on-campus opportunities, register for events, explore career resources inside of Handshake, and learn how to connect with employers.

Students will receive valuable information about preparing to register for classes, including how to run

degree audits as they explore and maximize their academic opportunities at UMass Boston. This presentation also includes an overview of important resources across campus that holistically support students.

Students will explore strategies to engage in the salary negotiation process as a way to receive

compensation that reflects the value and worth they will bring to an organization. The “Gratitude Sandwich” method and other key strategies will be discussed during this session.
