Pre-Law Advising

Students of all undergraduate majors can apply to – and succeed in – law school.

Although UMass Boston does not offer a formal pre-law program, we will help you put together an academic plan that best prepares you for law school. Before applying, however, it’s a good idea to examine your reasons for doing so and your expectations for the outcome.

The Pre-Law Guide will help you do that, and will give you some insights into law school admissions.

Additionally, you can access many useful resources around the web to help to prepare for your applications to law schools here:

Suggested Law School Timeline

Meet with a pre-law advisor in ACES to discuss:

·  Career exploration and career planning
·  Choosing a major / evaluating minors or programs of study
·  Researching law schools
·  Identifying valuable resources
·  How to approach recommendation letters
·  The LSAT
·  Your personal statement
·  And more!

Interested in an accelerated path to a JD degree?

The University of Massachusetts Boston and the University of Massachusetts Law School have established a 3+3 program that enables students to finish all of their major requirements in three years and then start their first year of law school at the UMass Law School in Dartmouth. Students who select this option and are successfully admitted to the program will graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree and a Juris Doctor Degree in six years. See a pre-law advisor for more information.

If you are considering law school, you are encouraged to meet with an ACES team member!
