Raising Multicultural Kids’ serves the needs of youth, families, educators, and the greater community by providing programming and training that gives people the skills necessary to thrive in a diverse workforce and global economy.
Raising Multicultural Kids is seeking individuals to serve as positive role models in PreK-6 classrooms in Southeastern MA as part of our Classroom Leadership and Literature internship program. This program is designed to help schools diversify their curriculum and further our organizational mission across the Commonwealth.
As a T.E.A.C.H. Leader (TL) you will be instrumental in making a positive impact on children grades K-6, as well as teachers in various schools. Innovation Leaders read to students and teach them about different languages, cultures, family structures and families with varying socioeconomic statuses.
Position Summary
The T.E.A.C.H. Leader (TL) Intern is part of a team of individuals in teaching that visit PreK-6th grade classrooms to read diverse books and do fun activities with the kids relating to the story and theme of the books. The lessons are created for the TL’s by licensed teachers with input from individuals who have lived experiences of the issues we talk about in the classroom. All TL’s attend up to 30 hours of paid training before entering the classroom and are scheduled to cover various classrooms for the remainder of the program. Training begins in late July/early August through September and the program runs from Oct-May each year.
Core Job Functions
- Lead or co-lead a series of recurring lessons each week in K-6 classrooms in which you read a book to students, engage the students in a discussion, and do a fun interactive activity.
- Ability to learn and work effectively in a hybrid structure (the program is in person, but training and some meetings may occur virtually as well as in person).
- Develop relationships with classroom students and teachers
- Interest in social justice (training will be provided).
Qualifications
- Commitment to RMK’s mission, vision, and values, which includes an understanding of and dedication to social justice.
- At least 1 year of experience in at least one area directly relevant to the position: childcare/babysitting, coaching, mentoring, teaching, relationship building, training or working with children in any capacity.
- Enjoys working with elementary-aged children
- Love of learning and curiosity about emerging issues.
- Sense of humor and appreciation of colleagues.
- Ability to read clearly and accurately.
- Reliable transportation is required
- The work schedule is customizable to your availability.
- Ideal 10-15 hours per week (in-person and virtual work)
