JOB TITLE: Mechanical Engineer Intern
DEPARTMENT: Engineering
SUPERVISOR TITLE: Engineering Manager
PAYROLL: Hourly
Qualifications:
Working on a BSME from a four year college or university program certificate; and two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities:
Working under close supervision analyzes engineering sketches, specifications, and related data and drawings to determine design factors such as size, shape, and arrangement of parts. Sketches rough layout of machine and computes angles, weights, surface areas, dimensions, radii, clearances, tolerances, leverages, and location of holes.
Computes magnitude, direction, and point of application of tension, compression, and bending forces, for predictive stress strain failure analysis, and develops geometric shape of machine parts to accommodate operating loads. Analyzes resultant harmonic modes of resonant vibration for mass-spring model of rotational systems.
Drafts detailed multi view drawings of machine and subassemblies, including specifications for gear ratios, bearing loads, and direction of moving parts.
Modifies machine design to correct operating deficiencies or to reduce production problems.
Assemble and test prototype mechanical products and assemblies. Write instructions for production testing and user manuals. Coordinate work with other project engineers. Assure compliance with the DFE Quality System. Report status of projects to management.
Uses computer assisted design/drafting equipment and software to develop designs.
Interfaces with production, marketing, sales, purchasing.
